To provide an educational and recreational camping program for Iowa's youth between the ages of 6-18 who have diabetes that promotes diabetes management skills to gain independence and a positive attitude for controlling diabetes.

New opportunities to volunteer are always popping up, check the volunteer page for your chance to help Camp Hertko Hollow!

Recipes Needed For New Cookbook
Spice up your life by getting your name published! Submit your family's favorite recipes for the new Camp Hertko Hollow Cookbook, which will be published next Fall 2008. Nutritional information will be calculated and the cookbook will feature a gluten-free section for persons with Celiac Disease.

  1. Fill out the recipe form and mail to: Deb Holwegner, Camp Hertko Hollow, 101 Locust St, Des Moines, IA 50309 or email to d.holwegner@CampHertkoHollow.com
  2. Have your child use their imagination and make up his or her own version of their favorite recipe to the best of their ability. There will be a special section for children's recipes.
  3. We need some artwork, so have your child draw a picture regarding diabetes or memories of diabetes camp.
  4. Share your personal story about dealing with diabetes and how Camp Hertko Hollow has enhanced your child's life by attending camp.
Order our current cookbook for fundraising. $10 from each sale can be donated to the camp fees of your child
